LAUNCH OF APPLICATION SUBMISSION FOR THE INITIATIVE THAT SUPPORTS GREEK ENTREPRENEURSHIP SINCE 2008
€100.000 TOTAL CASH PRIZES €30.000 FOR THE FIRST WINNER, €10.000 FOR SEVEN ADDITIONAL WINNERS
The application submission for the “Stelios Haji-ioannou Award for Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2018 in Greece has begun. The Award is held for the 11th consecutive year by Sir Stelios Haji-ioannou, founder of easyJet, of easyGroup and Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.
Since 2008, this important to Greek Entrepreneurship institution has essentially reinforced national economy and has created new jobs in Greece. More specifically, up until 2017, the Award has supported new businesses with the total amount of €700.000.
In 2018, this significant for entrepreneurship in Greece annual institution returns, offering for one more year, the amount of €100.000 and more specifically €30.000 for the first winner and €10.000 for each of the seven additional winners.
The Award is exclusively addressed to young Greek entrepreneur(s) who are 40 years old or younger (born in 1978 or later), have created their company, have started their business activity in Greece in the past 5 years, have a minimum turnover of 10,000€ per annum, employ at least 2 staff and own more than 50% of their company. In case 2 applicants from the same business apply, together they should own more than the 80% of the company between them. Applications with more than 2 applicants from the same company will not be accepted.
For one more year, the process of the application submission will be held exclusively online and more specifically through the official Facebook page of Stelios Foundation. All applicants are expected to like the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation page and join the public group “Stelios Awards for Young Entrepreneurs in Greece 2018”, where they will be able to download the application in a PDF form. This application will have to be filled in and sent as an inbox message to the Facebook Page. The deadline for its submission is on Friday, July 6th 2018.
Winners and candidates of previous years are welcome to join the procedure and submit a new application, following the process as described above and provided that they meet all the criteria. The winners will be announced by Mr. Haji-ioannou himself, in the Award Ceremony that will take place in Athens, in September 2018.
Overall, until today, a total of 24 businesses have been awarded, 8 of which were announced as winners in 2017. Last year, amongst a total of 89 candidates, a record number for the Award until 2017, MELIRA Greek Honey was announced as the big winner, receiving the amount of €30.000. Seven additional companies got awarded in the same year with the amount of €10.000 each. These companies are Agro Know,Athens Insiders,Chimera,Choureal, Elixir60, Relevance and Sea You Soon.
Other winning companies include: Sun of a Beach (2016), Sede (in 2015), Ancient Greek Sandals (in 2014), Nanobionic (in 2013), People for Business (in 2012), Fereikos Helix (in 2011), Fasmetrics (in 2010), Zoo.gr (in 2009) και Simply Burgers (in 2008).
