Stelios Philanthropic Foundation raises £2700 for Leonard Cheshire Disability at entrepreneurs award ceremony

A disabled businessman from Milton Keynes has won the prestigious Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs 2013.

James King, (pictured centre with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and MikePenning MP, Minister for Disabled People) who runs a home extension firm called Oliver James Garden Rooms, won the award run by easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability. Now in its seventh year, it recognises the unique achievements of disabled entrepreneurs and offers a £50,000 cash prize to the winner - the largest cash sum of its kind.

Stelios visits WWF for opening of new headquarters

Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou was on hand earlier today at the opening of the WWF's brand new UK headquarters in Woking, Surrey. The easyJet founder joined world-renowned naturalist Sir David Attenborough (pictured above) and other VIP guests for a ceremony to mark the international environment charity's latest stage of development.

easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou has been busy this week meeting his new scholars from the London School of Economics and Cass Business School. The twenty students, who began their studies earlier in the month, have been able to take up their places as a result of funding by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation. Over refreshments Stelios and the scholars discussed major issues of the day including the international financial crisis as well as the role of entrepreneurship in wealth creation and distribution.

Deadline for Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs

Business people with disabilities or a long term health condition have just a month left to apply for this year's Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs in the UK.

The award, run by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and Leonard Cheshire Disability, recognises the achievements of, and unique challenges faced by, disabled entrepreneurs. Now in its seventh year, the award offers a £50,000 cash prize to the winner - the largest cash sum of its kind. Past winners include start-up companies dedicated to assisted travel for blind or visually impaired people, interactive music sessions aimed at young children and providing disabled "extras" for film/TV productions.

Sir Stelios backs disability confident conference

Easyjet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou was on hand to lend support to a government initiative to get more disabled people back into work. Speaking at a conference last week - "disability confident" - Sir Stelios reminded delegates that 100,000 disabled entrepreneurs already employed an equivalent number of people in their business start-ups. "This shows the extraordinary strength of the entrepreneurial spirit amongst our disabled friends and neighbours," he said.
