Cass alumni gather to help tomorrow’s students

Over 150 alumni for City University's Cass Business School gathered in Monaco last Friday to raise money for a bursary fund for future needy students. Cass academics Paul Curran (vice-chancellor) and Costas Grammenos (professor - shipping/trade & finance) were on hand to receive a £128,000 cheque from Sir Stelios marking the 10th year of a pledge for ten student bursaries annually. In addition a €2000 raise from the "honesty bar" has been earmarked for a Monaco Bursary to help finance a student at the prestigious postgraduate business school. Last year's donation has been earmarked to help a Vietnamese student with her studies.

Stelios scholars meet easyJet founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou

Nearly 40 Stelios scholars from LSE and Cass Business School met last Saturday to hear easyJet founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou update plans for his philanthropic foundation. Speaking at the Foundation's new London HQ Sir Stelios said 215 Stelios Scholars had been helped to-date; with financial assistance being given to students at LSE/Cass as well as Doukas high school in Athens. He added the Foundation had pledged £3.5m over 15 years with awards going to students from Greece, Cyprus and the UK as well as other EU countries.

The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation was represented at Cass Business School's donors reception earlier this month. The Foundation sponsors ten scholarships at the world famous post-graduate college, which includes Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou among its alumni. Vice-chancellor Paul Curran thanked the Foundation's Tracy Ghori and expressed hope for its continuing support.

Yesterday Mario Stasis, Christos Omorphos, Chrysostomos Christofi and Mikaela Chronopoulou received their degree certificates from Dean Steven Haberman before setting off for new career paths at Coca-Cola and PwC among others. The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation endows 10 one-year scholarships annually at this prestigious graduate university college.

Talented Leeds businessman wins Sir Stelios prize for UK's top disabled entrepreneur

A 31-year-old Leeds-based entrepreneur who was told he wouldn't live past 30, has won the prestigious Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs 2014 run by EasyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou and the charity Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Ben Wolfenden received a £50,000 cash prize to help grow his business, Visibilis, at a special awards ceremony in London this evening.
