The poverty relief programme 'Food from the heart' expands to Samos. Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, Founder of easyJet, easyGroup and of Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, in response to a request by Mayor of Samos Mr. Michalis Angelopoulos, will help people in need and refugees on the island of Samos with the provision of food (snacks) for the next six months.
Through the programme "Food from the heart" funded by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, 130.000 snacks (croissants) will be shared over the next six months.
The Municipality of Samos will distribute this noble offer through the participation of voluntary organizations and with the assistance of the Coast Guard and the Police.
On the occasion of this mission, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou declared: "Recognizing the state of emergency the country suffers from and the dramatic conditions of people who risked their lives trying to secure a better future, the program "Food from the Heart" "travels" to Samos aiming to contribute in covering a basic need – a small meal given out without discrimination for all our fellowmen. I really hope to see soon the day that we will not be needed. Until then, we will be there to help our fellowmen in need and will continue to fund programs that help ameliorate everyday life both in Greece and Cyprus".

A few words about the "Food from the heart" programme
The "Food from the heart" started in May 2013 in Cyprus, during the economic crisis, in order to support people who were in difficult financial situation. Since the beginning of the programme at the base of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation in Limassol, "Food from the heart" offers a free meal / snack and a smile from the heart to people who really need it without any racial, religious and social discrimination. In Cyprus, the action has a total of 4 distribution points (3 in Limassol and 1 in Nicosia), while in 2014 the programme opened in Greece with a distribution center in Athens (Keramikos) which gives away more than 2.500 snacks daily. In addition, in September 2015 a second distribution centre has opened in Piraeus.
