10 YEARS OF THE “STELIOS HAJI-IOANNOU AWARD FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR’’:

LAUNCH OF APPLICATION SUBMISSION IN THE SIGNIFICANT INITIATIVE FOR GREEK ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The application submission has begun for the “Stelios Awards for Young Entrepreneurs of the Year 2017 in Greece’’, held by Sir Stelios Haji-ioannou, founder of easyJet, of easyGroup and Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.

 From 2008 to 2016, this institution has reinforced national economy and has created new jobs in Greece, by offering the total amount of €600.000 in cash prizes. More specifically, in 2016, in order to further empower the young entrepreneurship in Greece and -for the first time in its history- 8 winners in total were awarded, with the overall amount of €100.000. At the time, that was twice the amount offered since 2015 and the highest amount offered in the history of the Awards.

In 2017, this significant for entrepreneurship in Greece annual institution returns, offering for one more year, the amount of €100.000 and more specifically €30.000 for the first winner and €10.000 for each of the seven additional winners.

The Entrepreneur(s) must be younger than 40 years old (born in 1977 or later), must have created the company in Greece in the last 7 years with a minimum turnover of 10,000€ per annum, employ at least 2 staff & own more than 50% of the company. In case 2 applicants from the same business apply, together they should own more than the 80% of the company between them. Applications with more than 2 applicants from the same company will not be accepted.

For one more year, the process of the application submission will be held exclusively online and more specifically through the Stelios Foundation official page on Facebook. All applicants are expected to like the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation Page and join the public group “Stelios Awards for Young Entrepreneurs in Greece 2017”, where they will be able to download the application in a PDF form. This application will have to be filled in and sent as an inbox message to the Facebook Page. The deadline for its submission is on Friday, April 21st 2017.

 
Winners and candidates of previous years are welcome to join the procedure and submit a new application, following the process as described above and provided that they meet all the criteria.

The winners will be announced by Mr. Haji-ioannou himself, in the Award Ceremony that will take place in Athens, in May 2017.

Overall, until today, a total of 16 businesses have been awarded, 6 of which were announced as winners in 2016. To specify, amongst 67 candidates, a record number until last year, Sun of a Beach was announced as the big winner, receiving the amount of €30.000. Seven additional companies got awarded in the same year, with the amount of €10.000 each. These companies are: Agnotis, Apifon, Glowbox, Isostevia, Mermix, Finest Roots and Sleed

Other winning companies are: Sede (in 2015), Ancient Greek Sandals (in 2014), Nanobionic (in 2013), People for Business (in 2012), Fereikos Helix (in 2011), Fasmetrics (in 2010), Zoo.gr (in 2009) και Simply Burgers (in 2008).

 

A few words about the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation

Stelios Haji-ioannou Philanthropic Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental institution that aims to raise funds to reinforce and motivate programs that promote issues of education, environment and entrepreneurship. In March 2013, Stelios Haji-ioannou Philanthropic Foundation introduced the “Food from the heart” initiative in Cyprus, in order to offer a free snack and a smile from the heart, to people who really need it, without any racial, religious or social discrimination. One year later, the same action began in Athens. Soon, the “Food from the heart” initiative extended to other areas in the Attica region, reaching 17 distribution points in Greece. Today, the total number of Distribution Points in Greece and Cyprus is 21, through which, more than 5.000.000 snacks have distributed in the past 3 years.
